‘Bedroom Floor’ is far sweeter
than its predecessor, even though when it comes to the lyrics, it might be
naughtier. Payne taps into the style of the moment, tropical pop, which has
been utilized by some of the least likely candidates in the past year to score
a hit (looking at you, Ed Sheeran), but he doesn’t push it too far. “Floor”
isn’t sexy, it’s lovely. It’s not tropical, per se, it’s breezy. It’s
everything forced upon major pop artists, only distilled in a manner Payne can
actually pull off, which can’t necessarily be said for his last record. It
might not be a club banger, but it’s uber-cool, and he makes it work.
