“The singer
could have easily ventured into cinema with a romantic comedy or a much lighter
suspense film. However, the challenge of participating in such a historical
production led him to act in Dunkirk. ‘What happened on that beach is a
touching story. They are a group of practically innocent young people who are
left destitute of everything, almost naked, exposed. In such a situation you
react in two ways, you get the best of yourself or the worst. Dunkirk is not a
war movie, but a very personal interest for Chris that is closer to the loss of
naivety in extreme circumstances,’ says the singer and now actor.”

Harry:
“Chris
tells the same story through three different points of view: air, sea, and
land. This makes the narrative structure more interesting. [Chris] tells what
happened through the characters relationships with each other. Like every Nolan
movie, we’re talking about a big production, but it’s in the little details and
in the subtle acts that this story is told.”
“He’s great, he’s a good actor and a lovely guy. I
think the hysteria – [perhaps] it should have been expected when you take a
figure like that and give him a short back and sides and put him in a uniform.
I think it’s got a bit silly
really. The meaning has got lost somewhere along the way and people have
stopped realising there’s an amazing cast – including Harry – but there’s, you
know, the creme de la creme of actors.
I think the focus
should not be Harry Styles doing a movie, it should be on the piece in general
or his ability to act. And
he’s great.”
“On my first
day, when we finished my first shot. Chris was like: ‘Congratulations, Harry.
You just filmed your first shot.’ I started tearing up and Chris said it was
because I got sand in my eyes.”
